Proverbs 13

Some thoughts and reflections on Proverbs 13 today . . .

Verse 3.  Watch what you say, Phil, and how you say it.

He who guards his lips guards his life,

but he who speaks rashly will come to ruin.

S0metimes I think we need warning lables like this one to wear, warning our friends and colleagues.

4.  The sluggard craves and gets nothing,

but the desires of the diligent are fully satisfied.

“Fully satisfied” –  isn’t that what everyone wants?  I do. 

Diligence brings it on? 

Bring on the diligence!   I’m in.

6.  Righteousnes guards,  wickedness overthrows.    (Any questions?)

7 and 11  

(7) One man  (you mean like the whole nation?) pretends to be rich yet has nothing;  another pretends to be poor, yet has great wealth.  

(11) Dishonest money dwindles away, but he who gathers money little by little makes it grow.

Fifty-six weeks ago our days of pretending to be rich came to an abrupt halt and we began a debt-elimination plan.  I stopped the car and told credit card debt to get out. We’re gaining speed on this thing, and this month we grabbed another gear.  (Love that feeling of a new gear, the push of acceleration!)  We’re not done but I can see fiscal failure in the rear view mirror now, enough for me to know that Thi$ … is completely doable! The day is coming when I/we will fit the description in the first half of verse 22:  A good man leaves an inheritance for his children’s children.  I want my inheritance to include means, of course, but also godliness and wisdom.
