I Need Jesus

Resolutions start off like The Little Engine That Could most years, don’t they?

I think I can. I think I can. I think I can, hoping we reach December with

I thought I could I thought I could I thought I could  on our smiling faces.

How often does it happen though? If we’re honest, I mean.

Seldom. Self-resolve is more fragile than some of the artifacts featured on Antique Road Show.  Could these lines help us understand why?

The Christian often tries to forget his weakness; God wants us to remember it, to feel it deeply.

The Christian wants to conquer his weakness and to be freed from it; God wants us to rest and even rejoice in it.

The Christian mourns over his weakness; Christ teaches His servant to say, “Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities…I take pleasure in infirmities.”

The Christian thinks his weakness his greatest hindrance in the life and service of God; God tells us that it is the secret of strength and success. It is our weakness, heartily accepted and continually realized, that gives us our claim and access to the strength of Him who has said, “My strength is made perfect in weakness.” —Andrew Murray

I don’t know about you, but I need Jesus. The gentle melody and comforting text of this 75-year-old hymn is playing in my mind this morning. I hope it follows me around all day, reminding me of the true source of the strength and freedom I enjoy.

…So constant, kind, so strong and true. Yes, I need Jesus.

    I Need Jesus too and am happy to know you need him likewise…

    You said, the Christian wants to conquer his weakness and to be freed from it;

    And God has blessed us to achieve that dream in Jesus. God didn’t want to see us helpless but demands to grow in full status of Jesus Christ.

    And we grow while recognizing Jesus in one other, while recognizing our Lord who was crucified that we may live in him.

    Glory to God.
