I Believe in You

Those are powerful words:

I believe in you.

Do you remember the day you realized someone you look up to believed in you?

You probably took a deep breath -like I did- and filled your lungs with hope.
Those words can quicken your step, turn a hopeless situation into a challenge, fortify faltering resolve.  It can urge someone on in their quest.

You don’t have to say those exact words, I believe in you, but you can make a difference in someone’s life by getting the message across that you believe in them, you want them to thrive, to succeed.

This “I believe in you” mindset is part of disciple making, really.   My favorite definition of the word “discipline” is from the American Heritage Dictionary:

dis·ci·pline

When the younger or less experienced person you’re mentoring knows you believe in them they’ll amaze you.  Life won’t suddenly become perfect (is it ever?) but they’ll rise to the occasion knowing someone they look up to believes in them.   Just like Jesus did with His disciples.
